In recent months, there have been numerous rumors about various products using Apple’s mini LED technology. But the current iPad Pro 2020 with the old display came on the market and so now the current MacBook Pro too.
As MacRumors now reports, the very reliable Ming-Chi Kuo has commented on this. He published another report on the upcoming news from Apple. Earlier he had already mentioned the upcoming Mini LED displays, including for iPads and MacBooks. But the development of the new technology has been stopped by the current epidemic, so its implementation may be delayed.
Apple postpone the launch of devices with Mini LED screen to 2021
The step towards mini-LEDs has been delayed. But the mass production of the first displays is expected to start in the third quarter. We could still see the first products with it in 2020, but more will not follow until 2021.
Apple is expected to plan four to six new products with the technology, and it will play a major role in the company’s long-term strategy. In the next 5 years, mini LEDs should play a central role next to the OLED panels and we will see them in several Apple products.
It’s unclear which products could start. But a 16-inch MacBook Pro, a new iMac Pro, and the iPad Pro 2021 would be good candidates. we don’t expect to see such a display in a rather cheap MacBook Air. The Apple Watch would also be a good candidate for this.
Fans are excited about this step and especially the comparison with OLED. Mini-LEDs may not yet have the quality of micro-LEDs that Samsung continues to push. But they should be a big leap forward in black levels and other factors.
It is clear that Apple plans assume switching to Mini LED screens in the near future. We will see how it performs and if it will be able to outperform the OLED screens.
