FaceID will come to the MacBook lineup in the coming years

With the arrival of the iPhone X, has ditched the legendary “home” button of its iPhone series to achieve a better screen-to-body ratio. However, the company had to sacrifice the physical fingerprint scanner and never brought it back. The reason? Well, the company does not like side-mounted or rear-mounted fingerprint scanners. With the lack of a fingerprint scanner, users had to say goodbye to the Touch ID feature. The company then provided a solution based on face recognition, the Face ID. For now, this is the standard security feature on Apple smartphones and even iPads. However, in the feature, this feature may reach the MacBook series of laptops and computers.

According to a new report from Blomberg’s Mark Gurman, will likely introduce FaceID to Macs, including both MacBooks and the iMac, within the next couple of years. The information marks a revision from previous expectations that had stated that Apple may introduce FaceID on the 2021 redesign of the iMac.

MacBook and iMacs coming with FaceID and TouchID by 2023

However, Mark Gurman has also noted that while the Face authentication tech on the 2021 iMac was eventually pushed back. is prioritizing the goal of introducing the biometric authentication procedure on its MacBook and iMac devices with urgency. Apple’s biggest rival, Microsoft, offers the Windows Hello infrastructure for all Windows PCs. It can use compatible integrated or external webcams to use facial authentication to unlock PCs.

Interestingly, Keyless authentication systems can be safer because they help users to stay away from cyber threats that require a password. While one can get access to your data, passwords, etc, it’s not easy to get your biometric data. With FaceID, can therefore introduce the latest biometric authentication set up on its PCs too. Hopefully, the company will have a powerful solution like its original Face ID.

As per the report, may present Macs with both facial and fingerprint recognition. This is a strategy that we also expect to see with its next-generation iPhones. While we’re not sure if Touch ID will make its comeback with this year’s iPhones, it will probably come with the next generation. The fact is that by 2023, all of Apple’s devices, including iPhones, iPads, iMacs, and MacBooks will feature both FaceID facial recognition and TouchID fingerprint recognition.

The availability of these features in all devices makes perfect sense. After all, Apple is working to converge the software experience in all its platforms going forward.
