HarmonyOS Brought Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Back From the Dead

Recently, there have been many reports regarding HarmonyOS running on plenty of different devices. Most of them are old and dated phones, which is precisely why these reports are exciting. And with time, it seems like more and more devices will end up in the series of phones that can run the OS.

For example, this time, the old and presumably dead Lumia 950XL joined the list. That showcases how potential the OS can be. But, yes, you do have to go through a lot of challenges. And the Chinese blogger that ran the HarmonyOS kernel did give us a hint in that regard.

Microsoft Lumia 950XL With HarmonyOS Kernel

So, a Chinese video blogger uploaded a clip of the Lumia 950XL running the HarmonyOS kernel. This kernel comes from an open-source OpenHarmony operating system library. And if you go through the video, you will notice that it only shows the kernel part. The blogger seems unable to access the home screen.

In addition to that, the blogger could not use any graphical interface on the HarmonyOS-loaded Lumia 950XL. But yes, after loading, the blogger could debug the software services successfully.

HarmonyOS

Here, you need to note that Open Source HarmonyOS is managed by the OpenAtom foundation. It is for the developers and third-party device makers who are aiming to integrate the OS into new smart ecosystems smoothly. So, yes, you do need to have a lot of knowledge regarding these matters to try out the OS on an old and dated phone.

But we can surely hope for an easier process in the future. Phones such as the Microsoft Lumia 950XL with a modern OS are still relevant these days. That becomes much clear when you consider the hardware. For example, in this case, the HarmonyOS-loaded Lumia 950XL features a Snapdragon 810 SoC. It has 32GB of internal storage and 3GB of RAM, which is better than most entry-level devices.
