Over the past few weeks, there have been a lot of reports regarding the upcoming iPhone 14 series. Most of these reports are on the display of this series. Apple needs a change in the iPhone 14 series design and will not use the regular notch design in all the models. There have been reports that some of the iPhone 14 series, probably the Pro models will use a punch-hole design. Subsequent speculations claim that this series will use a pull-shaped punch-hole design. However, Ross Young now believes that Apple will use a dual punch-hole design on the iPhone 14 Pro models.
This is the latest speculation regarding the iPhone 14 series design. According to the image on Ross Young’s Tweet, the dual punch-hole design will have a small circular and a pill shape punch hole side by side. Both openings will be at the center of the smartphone display. The circular punch-hole should house the dot matrix module of Face ID. Also, the pill shape punch-hole should hold the front camera and the Face ID infrared lens.
Ross Young claims that this design will be “unique to Apple, like the notch, not similar to all the pill models from Huawei”. He added, “Huawei has a lot of pill-shaped smartphones. I am sure Apple wouldn’t want to be accused of copying Huawei”. This new design is only a combination of what several Chinese manufacturers have been using. There is nothing special or innovative about the design. However, the arrangement and positioning of the pill-shape and circular punch-hole is a first in the industry.
iPhone 14 Pro will almost certainly use this design
Within a few hours of this design hitting the web, there are already many renders with this design. In addition to Ross Young, @iceuniverse and @antonio07341176 also have renders with this design. According to @iceuniverse, it is 98% certain that Apple will use this design. Of course, after looking at the renderings, some netizens use “unbelievable” or “Bizarre” to describe the feeling.
The current rumors generally believe that this year’s 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max will retain the notch. However, the two Pro models will have the exclusive new dual punch-hole design. This will give users more options if they find any of the designs “disgusting”.
Finally, as to when Apple can achieve a true full screen, Ross Young said that considering the technical difficulty of integrating infrared cameras into the screen, it is estimated that the fastest time is 2023 or 2024, that is, iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro.
