Vivo revolutionized its smartphones thanks to the arrival of its cost-effective hardware-focused iQOO sub-brand. The subsidiary has brought a set of smartphones with a focus on hardware and gaming and attractive prices. The brand started its 2021 campaign with the release of the iQOO 7. Now it is gearing up to unveil its cost-effective flagship dubbed iQOO Neo 5. Thanks to a plethora of leaks, we know that the device was getting close to a release. Now, Vivo’s iQOO announced that the launch will take place on March 16. March is becoming one of the most interesting months for smartphone enthusiasts. So far, we have a multitude of smartphones coming next month from mid-range devices to gaming flagships. Now, the iQOO Neo 5 is the latest addition to this list.

iQOO Neo 5 alleged specifications

Interestingly, the launch date announcement is in fact the first time iQOO is acknowledging the existence of the handset. So far, we have only seen it through leaked information. According to rumors, the phone will boast MediaTek’s Snapdragon 870 SoC. Moreover, it will pack a Samsung display and will have 88W wired charging and 66W wireless charging. The handset is expected to come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage. However, Vivo will implement its fusion technology here. The handset will take 3GB of the ROM memory and combine it with RAM, resulting in around 11GB of RAM memory. If you’re familiar with the swap memory concept on PCs, it’s basically the same thing.

The iQOO Neo 5 will also come with OriginOS straight out of the box. A couple of days ago, we got our first look at the handset thanks to an image that brings a leaked prototype.

iQOO Neo 5

According to the leaked image, the iQOO Neo 5 users a centered punch-hole camera. It looks significantly reduced compared to its predecessor, so users will not be annoyed by the space taken by this cutout. The leaked image further reveals some of the iQOO Neo 5 specifications. The leaked image also confirms the presence of a Snapdragon 870 SoC. For those unaware, This chipset came last month as Qualcomm’s response to chips like the Dimensity 1000 and Exynos 1080 series. It basically stands as a Snapdragon 865++ bringing an improved experience over the last year’s flagship SoC. The great benefit is that it will allow OEMs to price their devices lower than the phones equipped with the Snapdragon 888 SoC.

We expect all remaining details to be revealed in the coming weeks.
