In December last year, motorola released the Moto X40 in China. Although it was a China-exclusive device, it got the attention of the world. And the main reason behind that was the specs that it brought for the price. Well, the phone is making its entry into the global market, rebadged as Motorola Moto Edge 40 Pro.
But along with that flagship killer, Motorola will also release the Moto Edge 40. That phone is posing to be an affordable flagship and aims to offer a flagship-grade performance. However, what will it actually bring to the table? You don't have to wait until the launch because the detailed specifications of the phones have leaked!
Closer Look at the Motorola Edge 40 Series
Courtesy of MySmartPrice, we now have a proper look at what the Motorola Moto Edge 40 and 40 Pro will have under the hood. As you can tell, the Edge 40 Pro will be the more premium option of the two. After all, it is the rebadged version of the Moto X40 from China.
Motorola Moto Edge 40 Pro – The Flagship Killer
If you didn't get the chance to catch the X40 debut, just know that the Edge 40 Pro will be a proper flagship. It will come with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and a 6.7-inch OLED screen. The panel is 1080x2400px and features a 165Hz refresh rate. Motorola paired the SoC with 12GB of ultra-fast LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
Other than that, the Edge 40 Pro has a 4600mAh battery that can charge at a speed of 125W with TurboPower wired charging. On the other hand, it can wirelessly charge at 15W.
On the back, the Moto 40 Pro boasts a triple camera setup. Its primary sensor is 50MP with an f/1.8 aperture. The secondary sensor is ultra-wide, which is also 50MP. And the third camera is a 12MP portrait lens with up to 2x optical zoom. You will find a 60MP selfie camera on the front, which should offer crisp selfies.

Out of the box, the Moto 40 Pro will run on android 13-based MyUX 5.0. And it will feature an IP68 rating, which is a must-have for a flagship these days.
Motorola Moto Edge 40 – The Budget Flagship
Motorola Moto Edge 40 takes the same primary camera as the Edge 40 Pro, making it great for point-and-shoot scenarios. But the other specs are different. MySmartPrice confirmed that the phone would come with an unannounced MediaTek Dimensity 8020 SoC.
Motorola Moto Edge 40 will pair that SoC up with 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The phone went with a 4400mAH battery that can charge at 68W, which is still fast enough. And it can wirelessly charge at 15W.
Other than that, the Moto Edge 40 features a 6.55-inch pOLED screen. The panel has an FHD+ resolution and supports a 144Hz refresh rate. Even though it's a budget flagship phone, it has premium features such as 1200 nits of peak brightness and HDR10+.
On the front, the Edge 40 will come with a 32MP front camera. And while the primary camera is the same as the Edge 40 Pro, it has a 13MP ultra-wide lens. That sensor has a 120-degree field of view. Also, there's no tertiary camera, meaning it will have a dual camera setup on the back.
Like the Moto Edge 40 Pro, the Edge 40 features an IP68 rating and will ship in four color variants. That includes Lunar Blue, Eclipse Black, Nebula Green, and Magenta.
The Moto X40 launched in China for 3,399 yuan, which is around $487. As the Edge 40 Pro is a rebadged version of that phone, the pricing could be close to that. However, there's no solid info about the Moto Edge 40. But yes, it will be priced lower than the Moto Edge 40 Pro.
