OnePlus Nord CE 5G will get two Android version updates, three years of security patches

is facing a major restructuring now that it is set to operate under ’s arms. According to the brand, the integration will bring certain benefits for users like faster and more stable software updates for users. Worth noting, that that the company has been losing some grip in the terrain of Android updates. In the past, it was one of the fastest brands rolling out major Android updates. However, with the growth of its smartphone portfolio, the company is struggling to keep pace. The report states that the company is now working on integrating the codebase of OxygenOS and ColorOS. As a result, it will be able to improve efficiency and standard software experience. The company also revealed a new update policy for its range of smartphones like the Nord CE 5G. The company stated:

“THIS IS A CHANGE THAT YOU WILL LIKELY NOT EVEN NOTICE SINCE IT’S HAPPENING BEHIND THE SCENES. WE NOW HAVE A LARGER AND EVEN MORE CAPABLE TEAM OF DEVELOPERS, MORE ADVANCED R&D RESOURCES, AND A MORE STREAMLINED DEVELOPMENT PROCESS ALL COMING TOGETHER TO IMPROVE THE OXYGENOS EXPERIENCE.”

According to the announcement, mid-range smartphones such as the Nord, and the Nord CE will be eligible for two major Android upgrades. The devices will receive at least three years of security patches. However, this doesn’t mean that they will be monthly security patches all the time. We may see the company switching to a bi-monthly or even quarterly update schedule as the devices get older.

Based on this, the Nord CE will receive an update for Android 12-based OxygenOS 12, and a future OxygenOS 13 based on Android 13. The company may keep bringing security patches until the first half of 2024. As far as the regular Nord is concerned, the device will receive Android 12 and that’s all. It arrived with Android 10, receive an update to Android 11, and will get just one more round of updates. Low-end smartphones like the OnePlus Nord N100 and N200 should get just one major Android update. The flagship-tier OnePlus smartphones will get 3 Android updates and four years of Android security patches.

That’s a shame that smartphones such as the recently released Nord N200 will receive just an update to Android 12. Hopefully, the company will have a change in mind in the future. Especially, when competitors are offering more than that now.
