OnePlus’s first smart OnePlus Watch arrived with the OnePlus 9 series on March 24, 2021. This device comes with a 326 PPI AMOLED display, supports heart rate as well as blood oxygen detection. It also supports GPS positioning, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and a linear motor. For its price tag, this device costs 999 yuan ($152).
Raymond Z., the product manager of OnePlus Watch, recently introduced the development concept and parameter information of the OnePlus Watch in the OnePlus English forum. He revealed that this watch will support the Always-On display function through an OTA upgrade in the future.
The product manager also claims that the 402 mAh large-capacity battery is one of the top upgrades of this device. It ensures that the battery life is up to 14 days. In addition, the watch chooses to use RTOS instead of Google’s Wear OS. Its main purpose is to reduce power consumption and improve battery life.
OnePlus Watch brings a smartphone-like screen refresh rate
Most of the current smartwatches use a 30fps refresh rate screen. However, the product manager revealed that with the help of the technical team, the display effect of the OnePlus watch is optimized to achieve a refresh rate of 50fps. This is almost the same refresh rate (60Hz) as many smartphones in the industry.
This watch uses the ST32 + Apollo 3 + Cypress three-chip processor solution. The ST32 chip has strong processing capabilities and is responsible for screen display. In addition, the Apollo 3 low-power chip controls multiple sensors. It also monitors health data for a long time. As for the Cypress chip, it is a professional communication chip for Bluetooth connection function. These three chips can work together to maximize system efficiency. They also reduce power consumption and ensure that the screen runs at a high frame rate.
This OnePlus Watch has both a microphone and a speaker and supports IP68 water resistance. The product manager claims that when the watch is in water, the vibration through the speaker helps to drain the water out of the opening. In addition, the watch also has 4GB of storage space, 2GB can be used by the user, and can store about 500 songs.
For users who want to change their custom straps, the product manager stated that the strap width of this watch is the standard 22mm. In addition, regarding the Always-On screen display function, the product manager claims that it is currently studying its impact on power consumption. This is because it will increase power consumption by nearly 50%. The OnePlus Watch team hopes to know what users think about the screen display function.
