We’re just a couple of days away from the release of the PlayStation 5 right now. Based on this, Sony is increasing its efforts to build the hype for the upcoming console as well as the debuting titles. The company is slowly revealing details like the recently disclosed UI. Now, the company’s mechanical chief responsible for the PS5 cooling system decided to reveal some tidbits about the functionality of this system. According to this report, the new cooling system will offer per-game fan control. It uses data from AMD’s APU on board. It will smartly improve cooling performance over time.

Once the user puts a game and starts playing it, the APU will collect data. Instead of using a simple cooling cure for all games, the system can dynamically adjust the performance of the cooler to keep the system cool. In fact, the PS5 comes with multiple temperature sensors placed all around the board. They will work alongside the APU to collect the data necessary for the “smart cooling” feature.

“Many games will be released in the future and information will be collected on how the APU will behave. We have plans to optimize fan control based on this data.”

Sony’s engineers also designed a transparent case and pumped smoke from the dry ice into the chassis during the testing stage. This unusual test was made to monitor the cooling system and track the airflow of it.

The Cooling System will get better through software updates

There are additional details regarding the new cooling system of the new console. According to Sony’s console engineer, the fan for the new PlayStation 5 will be tuned and improved through system updates. Thus, this feature becomes good news for all those who are considering buying the new PS5. Players can count on improvements as this component is used over time.

The adjustment of this component is important to allow adequate cooling without impairing the performance of the console, as well as the gameplay experience. Apart from a big cooler, APU, and thermal sensors, the new PlayStation 5 also includes liquid metal to ensure perfect contact between the CPU and the Cooler.

We are curious to see how this system will play in the real life. Hopefully, it will perform better than the PS4 cooling system. It often needs good maintenance to keep performance and temperatures on safe levels.
