Redmi Note 9 Pro Max gets Android 11-based MIUI 12 update

Last year, had to change its strategy to launch the Redmi Note 9 series. Rather than bringing these smartphones to China first, the company had to opt for India. After all, the Chinese market was facing the worst period of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company launched the lineup composed of a Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. These devices were launched in global markets as Redmi Note 9S and Redmi Note 9 Pro, respectively. The standard Redmi Note 9 came a couple of months later.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro series smartphones reached the market with an 10-based MIUI 11 update. Several months later, in November 2020, the global variant of the Pro Max, the Redmi Note 9 Pro, received the Android 11 based MIUI 12 update. Curiously, the Indian users didn’t get contemplated with the update by that time. This was very strange one time that both devices are pretty similar in hardware. Now, seven months later, has finally started rolling out Android 11 based MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. Unfortunately, it’s not the most updated version as MIUI 12.5 is already here and MIUI 13 is almost in the corner.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is receiving the 11-based MIUI 12 update with version number MIUI 12.0.1.0.RJXINXM. It weighs around 2.3GBs in size so be sure to have at least 3 GB of available storage before downloading the update. In addition to the new Android version, the update also brings the June Android security patch. It’s something very nice to have as these updates do not come very often for devices out of the flagship spectrum.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max took several months to receive the same treatment as its global sibling

has been pretty slow, strangely slow in bringing 11 update for the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. A similar situation happened with the global Redmi Note 8 last year. The device received the Android 10-based update several months after the Chinese variant. It’s sad to see that the update is arriving in this point when Android 12 is almost on the corner. In less than two months, users will already be outdated. Of course, if you don’t care much for the underlying Android version, the device should still be eligible for MIUI 13. The update is rolling out in a gradual manner. will roll it first for a couple of units and if no critical bug appears, then the update will reach more units.

In case you’ve forgotten the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max specs, we can refresh your memory. The device flaunts a 6.67-inch LCD with FHD+ resolution, a Quad-Camera setup led by a 64MP shooter, and has a huge battery with 5,020mAh and 33W fast-charging. The device has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset.
