As we’re coming close to the second half of 2021, is preparing the terrain for its next generation of smartwatches under the Galaxy Watch lineup. The last year’s Galaxy Watch3 model was quite successful and the company intends to bring a sequel that will make justice to its predecessor. According to reports, the new device will carry the Galaxy Watch4 moniker and bring some siblings. The smartwatches coming under the Galaxy Watch4 series will carry Wise, Fresh, and Lucky codenames. Wise is said to come with Samsung’s iconic rotating bezel, while the Fresh, and Lucky might have a sporty design element. Now, a report from SamMobile states that the upcoming Galaxy Watch will run ’s WearOS instead of the company’s proprietary TizenOS. This is a big change, after all, Samsung has been sticking with its own software for a long time and goes against what most companies are doing.

Google is working hard to improve WearOS and make it a universal option for smartwatches. While the company has as a strong contender in the mobile market, it still is struggling to provide a smartwatch OS that will please all users. So far, the major drawback of WearOS is the limited battery life. Companies have been bypassing these issues by launching wearables with their own software. However, now that a big company like Samsung is betting on WearOS, we expect more brands to follow suit. However, the Galaxy Watch4 will not come with generic WearOS. Apparently, Samsung will put One UI 3 on top.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch4 series will have One UI 3.0 on top of WearOS

Samsung introduced One UI a couple of years ago and is already on the third iteration of this skin. Unlike TouchWiz, One UI has conquered the users especially with the company’s new strategy of rolling faster updates. Apparently, Samsung wants to bring One UI to smartwatches. However, rather than building it from scratch, the company will have WearOS and all its benefits running underneath. Furthermore, the report states that Samsung will include the SmartThings feature on the upcoming smartwatches. The company will revamp the user interface for ease of use. The wearables will also support a walkie-talkie feature allowing users to send short voice messages to their friends right from their wrist.

As per the leaks, the vanilla Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 will launch in 42mm and 46mm dial sizes. The Galaxy Watch4 Active, on the other hand, will come in 40mm and 42mm dial sizes. According to the report, the new wearables will go official in the next quarter alongside the next Galaxy Fold smartphones.
