The three companies are jointly planning “Next Generation Experiences” for so-called XR products. TM Roh, head of Samsung’s device division, revealed this at the Samsung Unpacked event in San Francisco. In this case, “Mixed Reality” (MR) is planned with XR. This means that they are now setting the target on a mixture of mixed and virtual reality.
Qualcomm supplies the chips, Google the software, and Samsung the hardware
At the moment, there are no exact details regarding the collaboration. But we expect Qualcomm to provide strong ultra-mobile ARM chips in its Snapdragon XR series. On its part, Samsung should couple the products with its in-house displays into finished products. Google (Android) will obviously supply the right Android software supplies.

The timing is not necessarily surprising, as there have been rumours for a long time that Apple also wants to launch its first VR or XR headset this year.
Google, Qualcomm and Samsung all have some experience with VR or AR products. Google started years ago with Google Glass offering its own AR headset, while Samsung always sold matching VR glasses for use with its mobile phones until a few years ago. Meanwhile, Qualcomm is supplying the chips for more VR headsets, most recently for the Meta Quest 2 from Facebook’s parent company Meta.
