Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC features and launch date have been revealed

Qualcomm’s flagship mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, was recently updated with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC. The new Qualcomm chipset for flagship smartphones improves CPU and GPU performance by up to 10% and increases efficiency by up to 30%. The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, like its predecessor, is built on a 4nm technology. The new flagship chipset will be available in smartphones in the next days, but at the end of the year, we are waiting for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

According to a fresh rumor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is already under development. It will be available at the end of this year. We already know some critical specifications for the next Snapdragon flagship SoC. Let’s take a look at the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC’s specifications, features, and other information that has been available thus far.

In December, Qualcomm will unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Some details have emerged ahead of the formal unveiling. The Snapdragon’s Gen 2 flagship SoC will have a unique cluster setup, according to tipster Digital Chat Station. The SM8550 is the model number for the SoC.

The Gen 2 model, according to Digital Chat Station, will be produced by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and will continue to use a 4nm production technique. While the fab will be the same as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, the tipster believes that the future SoC will feature a different cluster configuration.

In contrast to the existing lineup, which has a 1+ 3 + 4 arrangement; the Gen 2 SoC will have a 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 layout. There will be one Makalu generation core, two Makalu generation cores in another cluster; two Matterhorn cores, and three Klein R1 cores. The Makalu core might be the Prime X3 core, whereas Makalu refers to the 2022 Cortex CPUs. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC might include a Cortex-X3 core, two Cortex-A720 cores, two Cortex-A720 cores; and three low-power Cortex-A510 cores, according to this. An Adreno 740 GPU might be in use with the CPU cores.

Later this year, smartphones using the new Gen 2 flagship SoC will hit the market. We should anticipate to be among the first to release its next-generation flagship smartphones; with the latest Snapdragon high-end processor, as it is every year.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC proved to be neither the coolest nor the most energy-efficient. We don’t know how the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will perform just yet, but there are already whispers about a brand-new Qualcomm platform.

Ice Universe, a well-known insider, states that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (SM8550) already performs admirably in terms of power efficiency. In this regard, preliminary testing suggest that the new SoC will outperform the existing Qualcomm and Snapdragon 888 platforms.
