Snapdragon 898 GPU may be the only GPU that can compete with the A15 Bionic GPU

Recent reports show that the GPU performance of ’s next-generation flagship chip, Exynos 2200 may not be as good as the Snapdragon 898. The report points out that Samsung Exynos 2200 uses an AMD GPU, which will only help Samsung narrow the gap with Qualcomm Adreno GPU. However, the GPU performance of Snapdragon 898 will still maintain an advantage. Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 (Snapdragon 8 gen1) will come with an Adreno 730 GPU. According to @IceUniverse, the GPU performance of this processor far exceeds expectations. This seems to imply that the GPU of Qualcomm, Adreno 730, is still the leader in the camp.

Furthermore, he claims that the Snapdragon 898 (Snapdragon 8 gen1) may be the only chip strong enough to compete with the A15 Bionic GPU. One of his tweets reads

“If Exynos 2200 can’t play its full strength, then the Snapdragon 898 GPU will be the only GPU that can compete with the A15 GPU. I am very pleased that the performance of the camp has finally achieved a breakthrough”.

It is worth noting that the Exynos 2200 is a chip exclusive to Samsung. The company uses this chip in a few markets including Europe and Russia. China, the U.S., and other major markets get ’s flagships with  Snapdragon 898 (Snapdragon 8 gen1). As of now, the release time of the Samsung Exynos 2200 is not yet certain. It may debut in early 2022. Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 will be unveiled at the Snapdragon Technology Summit on November 31st.

However, earlier information and tests claims that the Exynos 2200 GPU will be stronger

Snapdragon 898 GPU running score lags behind Exynos 2200 & Bionic A15

Recent information shows the GPU running scores of the Snapdragon 898 on GFXBench. The scores of the GPU include 158.4FPS in the Manhattan 3.1 scene, 112.7FPS in the Aztec ruins (Normal), and 43.1FPS in the Aztec ruins (High).

Snapdragon 898

From the latest exposure, the GPU of the Snapdragon 898 is not as good as  A15 and Exynos 2200 engineering models. The Adreno GPU thermal management stability is better, and the continuous performance output is better than the first two, that is, the frequency reduction under high load is not serious. The Exynos 2200 has shrunk by about 25%, the Apple A15 has shrunk by 35%, and the Snapdragon 898 is currently 20%.

Back to the peak performance, take Manhattan 3.1 as an example, A14 Bionic currently ranks first with 137FPS, while Snapdragon 888 only has 117FPS. In other words, the initial running score of the SD898 GPU suppresses the Bionic A14. Relative to the previous Snapdragon 888, it has an increase of over 35%. In the Aztec Ruins (Normal), SD898 is 15% higher than Bionic A14 and 35% higher than Snapdragon 888.
