IDC released the “China Smart Home Equipment Market Quarterly Tracking Report” on December 10. The report shows that in the third quarter of 2020, China’s smart home equipment market shipments were approximately 51.12 million units, a decrease of 2.5% year-on-year; Xiaomi had the highest market share, reaching 16.3%.

IDC said that the decline in smart home market shipments in the third quarter was mainly affected by smart speakers, home video entertainment equipment, and a shortage of upstream components. The shipment of smart speakers in the third quarter was approximately 8.29 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 14.7%. The shipment of home video entertainment equipment was approximately 12.38 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 19.9%. In addition, the market for home security monitoring, smart lighting, and smart temperature control is growing rapidly, with shipments of smart temperature control products increasing by 337.5% year-on-year.

In terms of manufacturers, Xiaomi’s ecological smart home products remained the first, reaching 16.3%. This is due to its large shipments of smart TVs and smart speakers, as well as the launch of new products for smart door locks, lighting and temperature control equipment. Midea’s shipments rank second, relying on its advantages in traditional “white” appliances such as air conditioners and washing machines. In addition, IDC said that Midea has opened up new growth points by relying on its layout in the smart lighting market. Haier ranked third, with its smart home appliance shipments accounting for 80% of its share.
